THREE THINGS: The Estee Edit Mattified Lipstick in You're Welcome + Lip Flip Shade Transfromers in Turn Up & Turn Down

As mentioned in a previous post, the Estee Edit is a youthful new collection by Estee Lauder. Today, I have three lipsticks to share with you from the Estee Edit line: the Mattified Lipstick in You're Welcome, Lip Flip Shade Transformer in Turn Up and Lip Flip Shade Transformer in Turn Down ($26 CAD each).

Let's talk packaging first. I like the metallic blue tubes of the Lip Flip Shade Transformers. What's even better? The silver tube with a paint-like spritz of blue for the Estee Edit Mattified Lipsticks. So edgy.

Blinc Box Discovery Collection

Blinc is a beauty brand that promises to provide safe cosmetics in exceptional formulas. I had only ever heard of the Blinc Mascara which "tubes" your lashes instead of coating them. Hence, I was pumped to get my hands on the Blinc Box Discovery Collection ($45 CAD) - a set of 4 sample sized eye makeup products from blinc cosmetics - a mascara, brow mousse, eyeliner, and eyeshadow primer.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Brushes

In addition to the makeup and skincare goodies from the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Collection, Tarte also launched 6 dual ended brushes. I received 5 of the 6 brushes to review. The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Brushes include the Foundation Brush, Highlighter Brush, Concealer Brush, Color Correcting Brush, Lip Brush and Eyeshadow Brush (not shown/reviewed).

All of the brushes feel sturdy and have a nice weight to them. Further, they all sport a stunning gold to purple ombre metal handles.

Sulwhasoo Even Fair Perfecting Cushion Foundation in 25 Deep Beige

Two years ago, cushion foundations were all the rage in Korea (I reviewed the IOPE and THEFACESHOP versions). Now they're gaining popularity on this side of the world with brands from Lancome to L'Oreal to Sephora Collection launching their own cushion foundations (along with cushion eyeliners, blushes and bronzers)

But let's head back to Korea for a moment. The Sulwahsoo Even Fair Perfecting Cushion Foundation ($60) is touted as one of the BEST cushion foundations on the market. Sulwhasoo (owned by Amore Pacific) is a luxury Korean brand that specializes in skincare ingredients derived from medicinal herbs. Hence, the Sulwhasoo Even Fair Perfecting Cushion foundation smells a little more herbal than most beauty products (nothing bothersome).

#ManiMonday - In Quatrefoil

What is Quatrefoil? Quatrefoil is a decorative shape found in art, architecture and religious symbols. In Latin, it means "four leaves", which might explain why it looks like four overlapping circles.

Other than a solid colour, a quatrefoil pattern is my go-to nail art when I'm feeling kind of lazy but still want fabulous nails. All it takes is two polishes and a dotting tool. At first, I used Jenny Claire Fox's (formerly JenMissFabulous) tutorial on youtube. Now, I've got the hang of it and could (almost) do it with my eyes closed. Put simply, quatrefoil is a bunch of overlapping dots.

When choosing colours, contrast is key for the quatrefoil so that you can distinguish between the layers of dots. Dark and light work well, as does an assortment of finishes (matte, shimmer, glitter, metallic, cream) to add dimension. For this week's #ManiMonday, I chose a deep purple cream polish and a metallic lilac.

This is at least the third or fourth time wearing quatrefoil on my nails. It won't be the last.

Products Used: Essie Nothing Else Metals, Sally Hansen Boho A Go Go*

Do you think you'll try this quatrefoil nail art?

The Estee Edit Pink Peony Overnight Water Pack // #BeautyAttitudes #theEsteeEdit

A few weeks ago, I attended the launch of The Estee Edit by Estee Lauder in Toronto. The Estee Edit is a whole new line of makeup and skincare by Estee Lauder. Irene Kim and Kendall Jenner are the faces of the Estee Edit and most certainly well known among teens and 20's.

When I was younger, I had a preconceived notion that Estee Lauder was an old lady brand. I asked around and it turns out a lot of my friends (and the people of the internet) think the same way. I feel like the Estee Edit is Estee Lauder's attempt to tap into a huge market of millennial consumers (me included!).

Today's focus is a piece of skincare from the Estee Edit. The Pink Peony Overnight Water Pack ($58 CAD), aimed at delivering a boost of hydration and radiance. If you're interested in the makeup part of the Estee Edit, I've popped in a few photos from the preview at the bottom of the post. I've also got a review of three lip products in the collection coming very soon!

Guerlain KissKiss Lipstick in 325 Rouge Kiss

The Guerlain KissKiss Creamy Satin Finish Lipstick in 325 Rouge Kiss ($43 CAD) is officially my favourite Spring/Summer red lip.

First off, let's all take a moment to appreciate the packaging. The black cubed tube with gold accents is unique, sleek, chic, and in no way gaudy or over top. It's an understated kind of luxurious.

The Guerlain KissKiss Lipstick in 325 Rouge Kiss is a coral-based warm red. Something about it just makes me feel like my face looks a whole lot brighter.

There are 28 shades of the Guerlain KissKiss Lipsticks:
325 Rouge Kiss, 371 Darling Baby, 372 All About Pink, 370 Lady Pink, 345 Orange Fizz, 300 Golden Girl, 302 Romantic Kiss, 303 Beige Booster, 304 Air Kiss, 305 Forever Brown, 320 Red Insolence, 321 Red Passion, 322 Red on Fire, 323 Spicy Girl, 324 Red Love, 326 Love Kiss, 327 Red Strass, 328 Red Hot, 340 Miss Kiss, 343 Sugar Kiss, 344 Sexy Coral, 360 Very Pink, 361 Excessive Rose, 362 Cherry Pink, 363 Fabulous Rose, 364 Pinky Groove, 369 Rosy Boop

Being an iconic French brand, all of the shades seem to be quite expected. There's your nudes, browns, pinks, and reds and a definite lack of something that says "I've never seen colour that before," which is perfectly fine if you're looking for easy-to wear lipstick shades!

In terms of formulation, it smells like vanilla with a hint of berry. YUM! It's semi-opaque, fully covering the lips in 2 layers. The finish is pretty shiny. Somewhere between satin and glossy. It's very lightweight lipstick, so light that I don't even notice that I'm wearing it. Mucho comfortable. I'd say the lipstick lasts 4-5ish hours (longer if you wear a lipliner underneath) but doesn't survive through food. Luckily, it wears away evenly into a lovely coral stain.

All in all, the Guerlain KissKiss Lipstick in 325 Rouge Kiss is highly covetable. Perfect packaging and perfectly comfortable lipstick formulation. If I had all the money in the world, I would certainly pick up a few more shades.

What's your favourite lipstick for Spring/Summer?

What's in My Travel Makeup & Skincare Bag? // Greece 2016

I like to consider myself a really, really good packer, brining only the things that I absolutely need. As I mentioned a previous post, I'm off to Greece. I wrote this post while packing but by now I should either be in Athens!

I didn't bring my laptop and took a semi-tech break (I still have my phone). So, although I won't be writing blog posts, I took along some products that I've tried at least once, enjoyed and will be testing out more in-depth during my trip (denoted as reviewing below).

So... what's in my travel makeup and skincare bag?

MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Palette Volume 3 - Florals

DAMNNN, Make Up For Ever. Back at it again with the flawless eyesahdow palettes. Lately, I've been a little bored with palette launches. Neutrals, neutrals and more neutrals. I have enough renditions of the Naked Palette to last me 2 lifetimes and then some. Luckily, the new MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Palette Volume 3 - Florals has injected some SPRING into my eyeshadow game.

The Make Up For Ever Artist Palette Volume 3 - Florals ($52 CAD, limited edition) is the third installment of Make Up For Ever Artist Palettes. Volume 1 was "Nudes" (aka Nudes You Need) and Volume 2 was "Artistic" (aka Colors You Crave).

The Make Up For Ever Artist Palette Volume 3 is bright and full of colour. The palette contains 9 curated shadows in their wonderful Artist Shadow formulation. In a nutshell, they're buttery smooth... almost creamy or gel-like in a way. They last a solid 6-7 hours without a base and a lot longer with one. There's no fallout and the pigmentation is the For true-to-colour application, apply with a flat brush or fingertips. I've tried all of the finishes (matte, satin, metallic, iridescent, diamond) and they've been consistently amazing. Of the 11 (not including this palette) of 210 shades that I own, I have yet to be disappointed.

#ManiMonday - Marble is the New Black

Contact paper, desks, phone cases, laptop cases... MARBLE IS EVERYWHERE. And now it's on my nails too! White marble seems to be all the rage so I went for something slightly different to put on my nails - black marble!

Hylamide Photography Foundation

A product that can make my face look better in photos? Sounds like a dream. The Hylamide Photography Foundation ($20) supposed to be a "next-generation transparent foundation" that makes skin look better in front of the camera AND in real life.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Collection Makeup and Skincare

I think the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Collection is probably the most exciting (and beautifully packaged) collection to come out this season. It's full set of face, lips and eye products plus skincare and makeup brushes. WOW.

I've been playing around with the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation, Twinkle Lighting Palette, Eyeshadow Palette, Lipsaver Treatment Primer, Sea Quench Lip Rescue, Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick and Se Deep Dive Cleansing Gel.

Sephora Formula X #ColorCurators Collection 2016 with Mary Helen Bowers of Ballet Beautiful (April)

Mary Helen Bowers of Ballet Beautiful is Sephora Formula X's #ColorCurator of the month!

Prior to the Formula X collection, I had never heard the name. Upon a little googling, I found out that Mary Helen Bowers is a professional ballerina and celebrity fitness guru and her business Ballet Beautiful is a workout that "mixes athleticism and grace of classical ballet with targeted exercises and stretches that sculpt a dancer's toned, lean physique."

Lise Watier Hydraforce Hydra-Protective Comforting Creme // #getinthebubble

Oily skin is not equal to hydrated skin. Sometimes I worry about my skin because my nose will get weird and flaky but the rest of my face will be fine. It's impossible to tell by just looking at it. Fortunately, I was invited to test out a fun new app developed by Lise Watier that evaluates the moisture levels on your face.

Prism Brush Bar in Opal

Cleaning makeup brushes is the least glamorous thing about wearing makeup. With over 40 brushes, it's a long, tedious process that takes at least 45 minutes to complete. That's not including drying time. I've tried just about everything to clean my makeup brushes - bar soap, facial cleansers, olive oil, Cinema Secrets Rinse-Free Make Brush Cleanser, even facial cleansing oil (don't do this... it's very pricey) and none of them are easy (or pretty) enough to convince me to wash my brushes more often.

Enter the Prism Brush Bar - a local beauty brand right out of the Kitchener-Waterloo Region (where I go to school!). They're also cruelty-free, vegan and hypo-allergenic. Their mission? To lengthen the life of brushes and improve condition of your skin.

THREE THINGS: Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo, Sparkling Soda Shine Mist, Velvet Hammer Hydrating Control Cream

I received a few Drybar products when they launched in Canada late last year and decided it was time to share my thoughts on a few of the products I tested out. For 6 months, I've been using these three dry bar products on and off - the Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo ($29 CAD), the Drybar Sparkling Soda Shine Mist ($35 CAD), and the Drybar Velvet Hammer Hydrating Control Cream ($36 CAD).

MAKE UP FOR EVER #ProSculpting Lip 2-in-1 Pen in 40 Carmine Red

Right on trend with the ombre lip look, MAKE UP FOR EVER just released the Pro Sculpting Lip 2-in-1 Pen ($32 CAD).

There are 4 shades in the range - 10 Rosewood, 11 Rust, 40 Carmine Red and 50 Purple, which I find to be a little unimpressive given MAKE UP FOR EVER's previous tendencies to release products with a multitude of shade variations (210 for the Artist Shadows, etc.). Nonetheless, all four of the shades are very wearable, two that could be considered more "daytime" and the other two more "evening" but no crazy oranges or blacks or even simple nudes in this small selection.

As aforementioned, the MUFE Pro Sculpting Lip Pen is dual ended. The shade 40 Carmine Red features a semi-matte true red lipstick on one side and an iridescent pink-gold powder highlight. The red is intense, creamy and surprisingly comfortable on the lips. Since the red is so pigmented, I wish MAKE UP FOR EVER provided some sort of sharpener or more precise shape for the lipstick side.

As for the highlight, I was feared it would make my lips appear dry. Luckily, the so called "powder-to-cream" formula of the product paired with the sponge tip applicator for blending made it look seamless.

In terms of longevity, MUFE doesn't really make any claims. However, it's not transfer proof and the product lasts as long as I would expect from a semi-matte lipstick - 4 to 5 hours, requiring touch ups after eating. I didn't experience any weird balling or bleeding.

Together, the lipstick + highlight make one hell of a combination. I wasn't expecting to like the way the highlight appeared on the centre of my lips, so I was a little blown away by the volume and shape that it gave my lips. Then again, I could easily apply my favourite iridescent pigment to the centre of a lipstick I already own (but this is less convenient and more messy).

I don't think the Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Lip is as much of an essential as the MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting Brow 3-in-1 Pen or MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting Face 4-in-1 Palette to my beauty routine but I do think that the Pro Sculpting Lip is a wonderful option if you're looking to create the trendy ombre lip look.

Aaaand that concludes my reviews of the MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting Collection launches for Spring 2016.

Have you tried the MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting products yet?

#ManiMonday - LIVING THE GREY Inspired Nail Art

For lack of time, I've resorted to 5-minute manicures. A couple of months ago, I spotted Zubie of Living the Grey sporting a manicure similar to this one, though her white line was so much finer. It's minimalist and chic (JUST LIKE ZUBIE). The vertical line also lengthens the fingertips to give the illusion of longer nails.
