I think the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Collection is probably the most exciting (and beautifully packaged) collection to come out this season. It's full set of face, lips and eye products plus skincare and makeup brushes. WOW.
I've been playing around with the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation, Twinkle Lighting Palette, Eyeshadow Palette, Lipsaver Treatment Primer, Sea Quench Lip Rescue, Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick and Se Deep Dive Cleansing Gel.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation ($47 CAD)
The shade light-medium neutral in the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation is the perfect match for my current winter to spring skintone. It gives a solid medium coverage with an incredibly natural finish when first applied but I don't think that I've worn it enough to give a full review. I am wearing it in the lipstick photos! Expect something more in depth in the future (because I love reviewing foundations!).
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette ($50 CAD)
The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette is a trio of three shades for the ever-popular strobing and highlighting trend. The centre shade is a "perfecting powder". Thank goodness it's a lot smaller than the other two shades because it's probably the hardest, chalkiest powder I've ever come across. I'm also not sure where to put it on my face.
The "luminous perfecting powders" in Sunlight (white-gold highlight) and Moonlight (bronze champagne) are much more promising. I don't think I can choose between them. They're smooth and dreamy, packing quite a bit of metallic punch and radiance (akin to the Balm's Mary Lou-Manizer). The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette is worth it if you're willing to settle for an awkward centre shade separating two beauties.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette ($41 CAD)
Mermaid, Seashell, Wave, Abyss, Reef, Starfish, Cove, Sand
Tarte eyeshadows are a new-to-me kind of thing. I've heard many rave reviews about the quality and texture of their shadows and now I understand the hype. Sachie's review in particular made me so excited to dip into this palette. The formulation of the shadows are smooth and pigmented with little fall out. The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette is the perfect set of neutrals, with a good combination of warm and cool tones in mostly satin and metallic finishes - Mermaid (gold), Seashell (pink), Wave (slate), Abyss (dark brown), Reef (copper), Starfish (bronze), Cove (tan), Sand (ivory). I was impressed by all of the shades. A must have if you don't yet own a neutral palette (or if you haven't tried Tarte eyeshadows yet!).
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Mirco Liner ($26 CAD)
The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Mirco Liner is so damn adorable. It's ticks all the boxes for the criteria of fun size beauty. The super sleek and slim packaging prefaces the very fine micro felt tip inside, which is capable of creating an ultra black, itty bitty line. The only thing that's difficult with a tiny liner applicator is that it takes a while to build up a thick cat eye. Luckily for me, I'm one for either a thin, crisp precise line or filling in the wee spaces between the lashes. Tarte says this one is waterproof. It lasts all day without bleeding or smudging but won't last through a splash of water to the face or crying during the notebook.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Lipsaver Treatment Primer ($23 CAD)
The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Lipsaver Treatment Primer is not a lip balm. In fact, I tried it as a lip balm and it dried out my lips like no tomorrow. It also doesn't work underneath moisturizing products. The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Lipsaver Treatment Primer works best, as the name states, as a primer that smooths the lips and clings on to lipsticks with drier formulations (i.e. liquid lipsticks), helping them to last longer.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescue ($23 CAD)
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescue in Nude
The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescue is a moisturizing lip balm infused with antioxidants, Vitamin E and coconut oil. Tarte says that this lip balm smooths over the look of lip lines, leaving a radiant dewy finish. the Lip Rescue comes in 4 shades - Opal, Nude, Rose and Berry. I found that Opal was too pale and accentuated the fine lines of my lips. Nude, on the other hand, worked just as promised, a great option for sheer a moisturizing, sheer lipstick with a ton of glossiness to it. Both have a peppermint smell, which give some slight minty tingles when applied.
Oddly enough, it's housed in cardboard/printed paper packaging. Super cute but also a little delicate.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick ($26 CAD)
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipsticks in Cabana Boy, Top Down and Surfer Girl
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescue in Opal and Nude; Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipsticks in Cabana Boy, Top Down and Surfer Girl
I think I've found my perfect matte lipstick (and I usually hate matte lipsticks). Like the Sea Quench Lip Rescue, the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipsticks are packed with antioxidants. In addition, the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipsticks have Jojoba Seeds Oil, Pomegranate Oil, Cupuacu Butter and Murumuru Butter, all aimed at soothing, moisturizing and improving the texture of the lips. The ingredients deliver here. The lipstick glides onto the lips. It's matte for the most part but not 100%, as there's a touch of sheen.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipsticks in Cabana Boy
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipsticks in Top Down
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipsticks in Surfer Girl
There are 12 shades in the line. I tried Cabana Boy (cool mauve), Top Down (poppy coral) and Surfer Girl (cool fuchsia). Top Down and Surfer Girl are bright like the summer, and perfection in the bold, one-swipe formulation of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick. Cabana Boy is the cool girl cool mauve that I've been searching for since forever.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Deep Dive Cleansing Gel ($30 CAD)
To take it all off, there's the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Deep Dive Cleansing Gel. It's super gentle but hypoallergenic, so it doesn't bother my very sensitive eyes. The cleansing gel is lightly scented with lavender and infused with oil. Because it's so gentle, it isn't quite as fast working as an actual cleansing oil (no foam or oil-to-milk business). That being said, it's still very effective and can be used without the need to double cleanse.
This is definitely not everything but I think I got a pretty good look at the collection. My favourites are the eyeshadow palette, so fine micro liner and the sea drench lipsticks but nothing really, truly disappointed me here!
